MEET THE TEAM
“I started surfing about 30 years ago in the North of Portugal. My parents always took me and my brother on holiday to Peniche where I saw people surfing for the first time and I got very curious. It’s now 9 years ago that I started Oporto Surf Camp. After working many years as a surf teacher and helping organizing surf championships in Portugal I wanted to show and share the great uncrowded waves in the North of Portugal with others. When you give surf lessons it’s great to see the happiness of the guests when they catch their first waves. It’s very gratifying when they make a good progress. At our Oporto Surf camp people from all over the world meet each other. It’s nice to hang out with everyone, sharing experiences, having parties and to feel the good vibes. Ever since I started to surf I never stopped loving it and I like to share this pure feeling of life, ‘a pura Vida’, and freedom that surfing gives.”
Favorite wave in the north: Esmoriz and Maceda. Good waves, no crowd! I have very good memories of Cavedelo, that used to be the Mentawai of Porto.
Surfed in: Portugal, Spain, France, Morocco, Cabo Verde, Maldives, South Africa, Costa Rica, Hawaii

“I’m a local and grew up in Esmoriz, spending most of my time in the ocean. I started with bodyboarding as a kid, then switched to surfing as an adult and never looked back. I was a lifeguard for seven years at most of our surf spots and I’m still a member of the Sea Rescue Team of Esmoriz, so you can rest assured about your safety. 😉
Also, I took a gap year to travel the world, discovering a passion for exploring and meeting new people. This led me to join Oporto Surf Camp, where my love for surfing and travel combine. Doing what I love, where I love, with the people I love.”
Favorite wave in the north: Praia Velha, Esmoriz

“I went on holiday to Oporto Surf Camp for the first time when I was 15 years old, together with my family. It completely made me fall in love with surfing and with the surf camp. Pedro created something very special and unique here. Oporto Surf Camp is a place where you don’t just come for a holiday, but a place where you become a part of the family. On top of that, you spend hours in the ocean and have unforgettable parties. Trust me, you will not find this experience very soon at any other surf camp.
All of this made me want to stay in Esmoriz, and so I did. I became a surf instructor to give our guests at least the same amazing Oporto Surf Camp experience I had when I was 15.”
Favorite wave in the north: Definitely the waves in Esmoriz and Cortegaça.
Surfed in: Portugal, Spain, France, Netherlands

“The beaches around Oporto surfcamp are divided by jetties, creating entirely different waves very close to each other. Because of this every day in the camp is a little surfing adventure, in search of the best wave along the coastline. This part of Portugal has the best, most consistent waves on the European west coast, for all different levels!
Combine this with the small crowds, friendliest locals, good food, cheap beers, and fisherman’s parties, and it is no wonder that I stuck around after first visiting Oporto. It really is Portugal at its finest; a surfer’s paradise. Very excited to spread the hype as a surf teacher this summer. See you in the water!!”
Favorite wave in the north: Sunset party waves
